I do not understand why everyone wants to learn to use swords and knives, only that I do understand I think. I do not understand why I should learn to, though.

I am not a fighter, and even if I learn to keep myself safe, I do not want to learn to hurt others.

I do want to learn to change things. How people think, not like a telepath, but perceptions. I want to learn how to get people to stop using 'mutants' and start using 'gifted' or something else that people do not think badly of.

We have one school for gifted children here, but how many other people cannot go here, because of money, or location? Many governments pay for blind or deaf children to have schools and special training, why not us?

If someone who is in a car accident loses their sight, they get to learn braille and taught how to survive, and there are charities that help. Why is someone who is born without eyes, but with sonar like a bat not taught the same things? Why are they not eligible for the same charities?

That is what I want to change. I don't want to fight, or kill anyone who doesn't like mutants, and I only want to be safe here long enough to graduate and go to university.

If being safe here means I have to learn to shoot a gun, then no. It is not worth it. There is a line I will not cross, even if I am tempted to. I do not kill, I do not maim, and I do not want to learn how, lest I be tempted to.



I can see the future in my dreams. Some of you know this, because I have talked about it. I think Dr. MacTaggart told my teachers, to explain why I was falling asleep in Algebra last semester. I think some of you know because I saw you, and told you. I do not know how accurate those dreams are, I think that a lot of them are wrong, because I see different things. Some dreams, the world hates mutants and we are in jails or hiding. Some dreams, we are working for equality and acceptance and living as normal of lives as we can.

Both cannot be true, yes?

I write down every dream. Some of them I draw from as well. Doctor MacTaggart has copies, I have a binder. I think it is better to be open about it than hide it, so if anyone wants to see, my copies are open for reading.



Doug - can we have a ... I think the term is follow-up? - can we talk about the expiriment we did last week?

Certainly we can have a follow-up, Angie. I've been reading that book on the tarot that you lent me, but I'm still pretty confused about most of the reading.

And good for you, sticking to your convictions. You were quite eloquent. Speaking for me personally, I don't want to learn to kill people, but I do want to learn how to defend myself so I don't get beaten up like I did in the mall.

I don't have a lot of convictions, but the ones I have, I am keeping. No killing, no shooting, no cutting people up.

All I"ve ever asked of anyone is to be able to defend themselves. There are a number of ways to do that, but many do involve hurting other people.

I don't want to teach you to hurt other people. I want to teach you how to not be hurt. I want you to know how to not be hurt.

I know. I think that learning how not to be hurt is important.

But some people are talking about going over the line from not being hurt into hurting others, and that does not sit well with me. If they decide it is necessary for them, that is their choice, it is just not one I am comfortable with.

If I have to have those dreams though, and I can use them to help, I should. That at least is a decision I can make and not feel uncomfortable about.

That is why I offered. My copy is on my desk, and I can get it if you want. I think the other copy is in a binder in Dr. MacTaggart's office. Mine has colours, though.

as "one of those people who use knives and swords" I never intended to use mine, I joined the school team after I was not allowed on teh dance team b/c they were the only group willing to give me a chance (ie the suits and masks hide so many things). I liked it.

I never intended to use them for violence, merely for sport. but then we were attacked and I saw the possibilities. I don't think I want to use guns, I don't like guns. But swords, if you can, you can hurt/disable without killing. Yes, you can do the same thing with self defense, but I still like my shinies.

but if it makes you feel better M-A, none of my swords are sharp and they are tipped, which means the most damage they can do is cause bruises and welts. also, they are locked in that big black box under my bed.

Maybe you're just seeing a bunch of different things that might happen, is why you don't see the same thing every time. Which, y'know, is kinda reassuring, at least to me--predestination always gave me the willies.

I can't do a charity yet, but I think if I can get the ballet people interested I'm gonna start looking for places to protest this weekend, and I'm gonna make it clear to everybody right from the start that if they even so much as throw a rock they get kicked out. We don't need to make any more enemies.

Oh, and Guido calls mutants "geecees," for "genetically challenged," but that's mostly because he thinks political correctness is the best comedy act ever.

Predestination gives me the willies*, too.

I think that even if I see something, it can be changed. I am going to continue to think that, because otherwise, it is too scary to think about. Also, it kind of takes away free will, and that is just too scary to think about as well.

You don't have to do anything you don't want to do, Marie-Ange. That said, I think a bit of self-defence couldn't go amiss, even if you want nothing to do with the weapons.

Yeah, "willie" means all sorts of things. Probably because William used to be a lot more common name than it is these days. Maybe in a hundred years people'll be saying "man, that gives me the skylars." :)

I'm gonna go with the theory that your mayo dream thingie doesn't take away free will too, because yeah, otherwise way too scary. Gives me the skylars just thinking about it.

Have you ever considered a career in diplomacy or the like, Marie-Ange? You're very eloquent, and words are a hundred times more powerful than any handgun, sword, or form of martial arts, since mere words can stop handguns, swords or martial arts from being necessary in the first place.

I never met Miss Grey, but I do still believe that her work was very much worthwhile. I don't know that anyone here has taken it upon themselves to pick up where she left off, and while you may still be a little young for the world's leaders to take seriously (the morons), perhaps it is something to think about.

*shrugs* Having a gun put to me head a week after I get here ain't exactly my idea of a fun - or safe - place. I'm gunna be making sure that doesn't happen again, no matter what.

That being said, there are some other things, personal protection charms, that I mite be able to knock up for people. It's a lot of work and power so I won't be doing allot, but if yer interested I'll check out that chapter in one of the new books.

I still don't get the working for Sauron part. Do you have dreams where people are working for a gigantic eye?

And I think "the skylars" are going to have to be gender-neutral. Of the two-and-a-half Skylars I've known, one-and-a-half were girls. (Skylar Dane Harris and Skylar Autumn Johnson in my junior high class, you guess which was which, and my cousin Ellie who was almost named Skylar except Uncle Matt got home from his business trip in time.)

I had a few nightmares about Mr. Marko and a giant red eye. I think it was an eye anyway. It was really strange.

I saw, Skylar Dane was the guy, and Skylar Autumn was the girl, if only because it seems that naming a boy after a season would be mean, but then, naming anyone Skylar is kind of mean.

And, actually, Dane was the girl and Autumn was the boy. Their parents (they weren't related, thankfully) were best friends, and I think might've gotten a little too deeply into the mushroom patch in the sixties.
