Let us see..
Feb. 11th, 2013 07:47 amSince this morning came with news I could not have predicted - The Catholic Pope resigned. This has not happened since Gregory XII, which was almost 600 years ago, instead I shall predict the media responses:
In no particular order,
1. Star Wars jokes that the next Pope will be voiced by James Earl Jones, or by Mark Hamill.
2. Endless speculation that he participated more fully in the cover-ups of the priests who were/are pedophiles, or was one himself.
3. Even more speculation about what would happen should the next Pope be American, Latino, Black, essentially any nationality or race not Italian or otherwise European and white
4. Betting odds posted for the candidates for the next papacy.
5. Hope and speculation that the next Pope will either reduce or remove the effects of Vatican II, because nothing both pleases and angers Catholics more than the potential return of the Latin mass.
5. And much more to my interest - a retread of that tired Papal Prophecy, though I will note curiously that one of the leading candidates for the next Papal seat is Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana, and the Prophecy of the Popes does end with "Petrus Romanus, qui paſcet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus tranſactis ciuitas ſepticollis diruetur, & Iudex tremẽdus iudicabit populum ſuum. Finis."
Before Doug is forced to translate this for all of us, it reads: "Peter the Roman, who will nourish the sheep in many tribulations; when they are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The end."
So this will be interesting, no?
