We are going to an amusement park tommorow?
At least, I think it is a everyone thing, yes?

There is a combat class? And a psychic defense class?

And regular classes?

When does anyone sleep here?

Professor Braddock insists 'tis everyone for the amusement park and that we must have fun whether we feel like it or not.

At least, I think that's what she means by "mandatory break from reality." Considering 'twill be all the same people and not really much odder than some things here, I don't think she can mean literally.

We sleep... well... the classes don't really take that much time, at least not right now. For the summer, I'm thinking at least some of the regular classes

Mme. Braddock is a telepath, yes? Couldn't she just make us have fun? I guess that's not very ethical though.

...I'm not sure if she could do it to that many people at once. Maybe. I think using telepathy with a lot of people at the same time is a little bit like the way Jamie has to split his concentration -- oh, you might not have met Jamie. He can... copy himself and be several places at once, but all the copies are him and know what the others are doing.

But you're right. I don't think it would be ethical.

And about psychic defence -- it's very tiring, makes my head hurt, and Professor Frost is... a bit scary. But I think 'tis useful. I don't know how well someone who isn't a telepath can learn to block telepaths, but still....

I have met Jamie, yes. I don't understand the coping thing - he tried to explain it, and I think we decided that it was not all that important to understand how powers work.

And I don't understand mine, so its fair.

I sleep when I'm tired. It works great.

There's a combat class, but the teacher's kind of mean. The psychic defense class is interesting. I'm bad at both of them.

I'm Ev, by the way. It's nice to meet you.

Good to meet you as well.

I am ...

To be honest, I read everyone's journal entries about the combat class. I am not looking forward to it.

I can't hit anyone! I am .. I have no muscles. And I don't want to hit anyone and get them mad at me!

Psychic defense sounds less scary. At least, none of you are leaving it saying the teacher is mean or callig you names.

Aw, no one'd get mad at you, Miss Marie-Ange. :) We all know the drill. We're s'posed to hit each other!

And you'll get used to Logan eventually. He's quite a character.

I don't understand why we need to learn to hit people.

Just in case.

Self-defense is important, and could save your life if you're ever in a dangerous situation.

That is what running is for.

Well, but...what if you can't run?

But hitting people is not right!

Even if they are putting you and your friends/loved ones in danger?

But if we're supposed to be showing people that mutants are not scary, and we hit people, aren't we being scary?

..

I do not think that my English is good enough to make any sense. And I heard that there is ice cream. So I am going to have some ice cream. maybe. If I can find it. And when my English is less clumsy, I will see if I can make any sense.

Your English makes sense to me.

I know what you mean. If people who don't like mutants know that we're learning how to fight and stuff, that's not going to make them like us any better. Regular people don't learn how to fight all the time.

But I'm starting to think that I'm the only person here who thinks we're regular people.

That is exactly what I meant.

I kind of understand learning to not get hurt when someone else is trying to fight us. But I just think that people will look at it all badly.

They will say "Look at that mutant fighting that human being." even if we are fighting back. They will not say "Look at that poor mutant being hit!"

I think we are mostly regular people. Like people who are really good at math or can run really fast. We just are good at other things. The same, and kind of different too.

I understand very much how you feel about the ethics and moral responsability in hurting others. What I have learned, so far, is that sometimes, you have no alternative to fighting, because sometimes you have to defend yourself. It's like the Church's view on just war--sometimes fighting is okay.
