I hope this works this time. My first entry disappeared after I hit "Post". I would very much not like to have to rewrite this again.

I cannot sleep.

So this is probably a very good time to set this journal up. I think that paper and pen is easier for spontaneous writing - but I can change the layout and colors on this, and it has pictures. So I am torn as to which I prefer.

If I understand this right, my classmates can read this. If so - hello!

I am Marie-Ange Colbert. I don't think I saw any of you when I got in last night, but it was somewhat late, and I was absolutly dead in the brain from the plane. Thank the Lord that immigration went well. I heard too many horror stories from Mama and Papa about the stupid American customs agents to not worry, and I was worried for nothing, because I had no problems at all!

This school is huge. It is bigger than my last school, at least. I think I may be biased, though, since my last school was private and small.

And so pretty. I am going to go through so much paper here drawing the grounds. And the mansion. And the gardens.

I have met either two, or maybe three of my teachers. I am not sure if one of the people who picked me up is a teacher or not. He is very young. And I was told my classmates want him to wear a dress! That is ..

That is very funny. And strange. But maybe is it normal? I don't think it is normal. I have never seen American men wearing skirts on television, but then, American television doesn't have mutants either, and I know America has mutants. Or maybe we just didn't get the right kind of imported television shows in Lyons?

Too many questions for an empty stomach. I think I am going to go find the kitchen and see if anyone is having breakfast.

Edit: I need to find a church before Sunday. Reminder to myself so I do not forget.

Welcome to Mutant High. :) I'm Bobby.

I think that Kurt ([livejournal.com profile] x_bamf) goes to a church near here. You could ask him.

Hello Marie-Ange! I'm Terry. Don't worry about your jet lag - several of us don't sleep much, so if you have trouble adjusting there will always be someone around if you want to talk.

Oh, and we are actually considering making dresses part of the mandatory schol-uniform for our boys. It's all in good fun, though.

Kurt is Catholic? (I am going now to read his journal, so it is likely I will know the answer to that question soon..)

Oh good. I was a little worried I was going to be up early waking everyone up for a few days.

We have uniforms? I thought we didn't have uniforms here? Now I am confused.

and - as long as the dresses are not from the uniforms I had to wear at my old school. I cannot imagine Sam who I met last night, in a green and pale orange plaid jumper. Very unattractive uniforms. Very, very unattractive.

Like this - Number 74. (http://store.yahoo.com/cbaker8702/swatches.html)

You are right, that is not a good look. Though Jamie, whom I'll sure you'll meet, has some rather... lurid t-shirts.

No, we do not have to wear uniforms here. It's just taht we have been joking around with our boys lately, like here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/x_sparky/2172.html?thread=39036), for example. Don't take us too serious.

Oh good. Very very good.

Uniforms are scratchy and uncomfortable. I think it is a United Nations ruling - all uniforms must be made of wool that itches, and must be made of the worst possible combination of colors, ever.

But it going to be very, very strange going to classes in pants! We always had to wear skirts.

Hello, Marie-Angie. As people have said - there are churches nearby, including the one Kurt goes to.

If you can't sleep, the kitchen seems to be the meeting place for local insomniacs.

I'm Storm, I teach Literature, World History, and a few other things.

Glad you're getting settled, Miss Marie-Ange. :)

And we're all funny and strange here. Definitely not normal.

I'm not that young. 22. And I'm not a teacher, at least not yet. I may be starting a class soon though...

Hiya. I'm Jamie. Welcome to America. :)

Man, there's a lot of people here from different countries. Wish I could travel like that.

And no the dresses thing isn't normal, it's just the girls here are warped.

So you draw? That's really neat. :)

Merci. Everyone here is so nice! Even if Thersa said in her journal that people here might scare off new people. No one is scary yet.

I had not traveled before outside of Europe. So far, I like America, except for the airport. But I have not seen very much, so my opinion is limited, yes?

The dresses thing is _not_ normal? ..

That's a little disappointing. :)

I draw a little. I don't think I am very good at drawing people or animals, but I am not bad at drawing things. And fish. I can draw fish.

That's a little disappointing. :)

Aagh, they're importing them, now! :)

I hadn't ever been outside of Kansas before coming here except the time I was the ringbearer at my Aunt Annie's wedding in Ohio, and I was three then, so even just travelling inside Europe is a lot more than I've done. I hope you still like America after your opinion isn't quite so limited.

I tried to draw a bee, once, but it came out looking more like a black and yellow football. American football, I mean, not a soccer ball.

It is only a little disappointing. I am not going to chase you, or anyone, around with a little plaid kilt.

Although from what I hear, if anyone could wear my skirt from my last school, it would be you. I read that you look good in green.

Actually, probably not. This is the ugliest plaid in France. And Europe. And most of the planet.

Your drawings are pretty, although the Tarot deck does make me nervous. I saw you notice; it was very polite you didn't say anything. I liked the ones you showed me while unpacking.

Kurt is very nice. I think you'll like him.

I hope I wasn't why you couldn't sleep...? *looks worried* I didn't think I was doing anything -- so 'twas just the time change, I hope? I had trouble getting used to that at first as well, and I still seem to want to be awake more at night. (I think having porridge at midnight is not helping convince my stomach of the time here, I admit.)

*looks marginally more cheerful*

Och, though, it'd be much nicer if they were trying to put the boys in a proper kilt. I'm none too sure girls look right in some of the things they've been showing, much less boys!

I think our kilts weren't proper kilts from Scotland though.

What things were they going to put people in? Dare I ask?

A kilt like in Braveheart? That might look kinda cool, actually. I could paint my face blue.

Maybe I'll hide out with you two when they come looking to cram me into a party dress. :)

Oh, no. You didn't do anything. I couldn't sleep because I slept on the plane. Well, I slept on the plane badly, because I kept waking up scared I was going to be stuck in the plane and end up back in France. And then I woke up at three in the morning thinking that breakfast would be a very good idea. It felt like morning, and not the middle of the night.

I hope you like it here and I am sure you will because everybody is really nice.

You said you were going to draw the grounds... do you like drawing and painting? It is one of my favorite things to do.

Grad students? Grad, as in graduate? You have graduated? And you are still here?

I guess we do university classes as well then?

So far I like it a great deal. One day is not really enough to know for the long term though.

I draw, some. Mostly I have started after I found my power. It is much easier for me to make my own drawings real than it is for me to make just a random picture real. I haven't painted anything yet, at least, I have not given it a serious try. We didn't have very good art classes at my old school.

(From what I hear, all you guys are wearing dresses. )

Yes... we have all kinds of classes.

You make drawings real? That is a good power I think! I would like to see that sometime if you do not mind. I draw more than I paint, but I do have paints if you want to borrow some. I am glad there is another person here who likes to draw. :)

(They can't make me.. I can run faster than them.)

I make drawings and things like drawings a little bit real. So far it has just been pictures I drew and some pictures on cards, and once a picture from a prayer book. Which got me in a lot of trouble at school, and is a kind of long story.

Its really hard to explain. I've tried twice, it doesn't work. I think I'm going to have to just show people, because I don't know the words in English OR French to explain it.

It _is_ a pretty neat power. And I would be happy to show you.

I had to take English in school, so I think I speak it pretty well.

Also, there are a lot of American movies on cable television. That helped a lot. I do not know a lot of the more complicated words. Like tolerant and tolerable. One means to accept things. I am not sure what the other one means yet. I should look that up.

I think I will meet everyone I have not met yet tommorow at the park. :) I hope so. Everyone has been really nice and not scary so far.

I like the American cartoons. Do you watch Cartoon Network?

I know all about looking up words.. you might like this (http://www.dictionary.com) by the way.

The park should be a lot of fun, I hope they have a lot of roller coasters!

In Lyons. Unless it is on satelite television, which we didn't have.

But we have a all cartoon channel, so I know something of the American cartoons.

That website is going to be very, very useful, thank you. I keep getting the spelling of words all mixed up. My head wants to spell the ones that are familiar to me like they are spelled in French.

Now that is an awful plaid. I wore uniforms all through high school myself. Let's see, I do believe ours was number 35. In elementary school we wore number 78. The fashion show will involve far more attractive fabrics because, after all, our boys are far more attractive than the girls I went to school with.

By the way, I'm Lorna and I think I'm (very loosely) masterminding this boys in dresses plan.

Re:

Ooh. Number 78 is just horrible.

I think that some of the boys are going to hide from you. At least one could be scared out with a giant Cookie Monster though. I am not saying which one.

Re:

Yes, and in elementary school we had to wear jumpers in that plaid...yick. At least in high school it was just skirts and we had the option of wearing a plain grey one as well.

Cookie Monster hmm? You really are going to need to tell me whom. Doesn't have to be here if you're worried about him noticing...just come over to my room. Alison and I have suite 205.
